Short Description of the Project GG-CO2

Partners: INN, NCSR “Demokritos”, Greece (Dr. E.P. Favvas), 2) ADVISE, Chios, Greece, 3) Köln-University of Applied Science, Germany & 4) FutureCarbon GmbH, Bayreuth, Germany.

Project Duration: 29/05/2018 – 28/05/2021.

Project Description: The approach in the GG-CO2 project is to combine two types of promising materials, the nano-carbon materials which present high CO2 adsorption capacity and the polyimide material which present high CO2 separation coefficients. Within the GG-CO2 project, the objective is to develop novel nano structured mixed matrix carbon based membranes for CO2 separations, as one step of the natural gas “sweetening” process. The main goal of the project is to develop and test a new generation of carbon based nanostructured polyimide mixed matrix membranes with high CO2 permeability and high selectivity for CO2/CH4 and CO2/N2 mixtures. The vision of the GG-CO2 project is to develop well dispersed nano-carbon based mixed matrix membranes with high CO2/CH4 and CO2/N2 separation coefficients, up to 40 and 20 for CO2/CH4 and CO2/N2 mixtures respectively and with a CO2 permeability of ≥ 750 Barrer.
